ISLANDS LUTHIER'S GUILD

The inaugural meeting was held on August 19th, 2006 at Steve Heizer's place in Yellow Point. There were luthier's in attendance from as far north as the Comox Valley and as far south as Victoria. Several people came from Saltspring Island.

Steve showed us several of his guitars, including a new parlour. Adam Johnston brought a parlour guitar and an electric bass while Roch Schneider showed his Kasha /Schneider inspired steel string acoustic and a bass.

A highlight of the day was a tour of the Wildwood sustainable forest which is right next door to Steve's in Yellow Point. (http://ecoforestry.ca/Wildwood.htm )  Among other things, we learned how the stumps of trees that have been cut can continue to grow because their roots are still connected to other nearby living trees.

A wide array of munchies and refreshments were enjoyed by all and the rest of the day was spend in general lutherie related conversation. In the evening most attendees made their way home while a few went to a Ken Hamm concert benefiting the Wildwood forest.
